For Cod and Country Cookbook giveaway

A few weeks ago, I told you about a special project I have been working on relating to sustainable fishing. This week’s giveaway is a great extension of this theme and the perfect way to keep the conversation about what we decide to put on our table going.For Cod and Country has to be one of the most mouth-watering cookbooks I’ve had the pleasures of reading through this year. Being in the food business, I spend a fair amount of my work hours and free time reading about new cookbooks. This one really is a gem. Chef Barton Seaver seems to exactly know the kind of food I want to be eating! Recipes like Trout and Autumn Squash with Roast Garlic and Pecans, Halibut with Ginger-Raisin Crust or Salmon Carpaccio with Grilled Lemon and Herbs are just a few of the recipes that first drew me to this book

But most importantly maybe, Barton Seaver discusses all the issues that come with the way so much of our fish and seafood gets to our supermarkets and tables. He offers some suggestions to be more gentle to our planet and understand what we can individually do to eat more ethically. Simple changes like thinking of eating fish seasonally or eating smaller portions of fish with plenty of vegetables around it are workable solutions to becoming better eaters.

    I definitely limit my fish intake, and try and stick with more sustainable choices like sardines, catfish, tilapia, etc. And I’ve been eating less meat too!

    This book looks really interesting! I’ve tried to include more local/seasonable food in my diet…luckily I live in Northern California so that is a lot easier than many places to do on a year-round basis! 🙂

    i usually eat top ramen for dinner because of my busy schedule; however, i’m trying to put veggies and eggs in them to make them more nutritious

    In the past few years our family has joined a local CSA. We have learned a lot about seasonal food and really enjoyed the surprise of what is in our weekly delivery.

    Thanks! I don’t eat fish often and when I do its a small portion. My favorite fish is wild cod, with roasted tomatoes and garlic with sqeezed lemon on top when serving. Oh salt and pepper too.
    We also eat fish when my husband catches wild trout. And it only a few times a year for this. “For Cod and country Cookbook giveaway”

    I eat local, as much as I can, and I try to eat less meat overall (switching out for other proteins such as quinoa).

    I eat a lot less meat. I grew some vegetables this summer. I also grew a lot of herbs. I would really like this cookbook, because I would cook from it.

    This sounds like a great cookbook! Since I moved close to a market I’ve been trying to buy most of my vegetables, cheese, and fish there, which has also helped me cook along with the seasons a lot more.

    The biggest changes my husband and I have made to our diet is to source local ingredients and farm fresh free range eggs. Eating more fruit and veggies is becoming a great focus in our weekly food choices.

    Joining my local CSA had the largest impact on my eating locally and seasonally. And it’s wonderful. All the produce is still bristling with life and it’s all organic.

    Yes, I have recently switched to a pescatarian diet. Also, always try to include more local food, especially fruits and veggies from farmer’s market. Thank you for the opportunity.
